Replacing Legacy Telco Copper (POTS) Lines

February 2, 2022
The landscape of internet technology has experienced rapid changes. Before the age of wireless internet technologies, connectivity was primarily delivered through copper wires known commonly as plain old telephone service (POTS). POTS is a telephony service that uses copper wires to transmit dial tone service. POTS lines are typically used for connectivity to emergency phones in elevators as well as, alarm systems, legacy analog phone systems and fax machines.

What To Do About Changing Infrastructure?

POTS service is not highly profitable for major carriers. Due to this lack of high profitability major carriers have primarily shifted resources into their cellular and fiber networks. With this change in focus, many carriers are actively decommissioning or refusing to keep up many of their traditional POTS lines across the country. This is a major problem for many companies and organizations that rely on this POTS lines to service critical services in their buildings.

With POTS lines being decommissioned or ignored there’s a need for businesses to adapt to ensure their critical pieces of infrastructure aren’t interrupted and continue to work. Simply ignoring this change in technology and not providing service to these systems is unacceptable. A new technology needs to fill the gap. The simplest solution to this problem is to use newer more cost-effective infrastructure to serve the same purpose.

POTS Over 4G LTE

One Ring Networks has a solution to replace traditional POTS lines keeping your necessary business functions running. We call it POTS in a Box. Our POTS in a box solution connects our 4G LTE solution with an Analog Terminal Adaptor (ATA) providing a dial tone service to customers replacing the traditional POTS solution. This solution is quick to install making the switch easy and painless with very little downtime between service. Once it’s installed, you’re good to go.

This solution is paired with a battery backup in case of power outages. That way if the power goes out, you don’t lose connectivity to these critical systems. In addition to the battery backup, our team monitors all our devices 24/7 with a local tech support team. That way we are available to our customers 24/7 for any questions or in case of unexpected outages.
