For many companies, getting a high-speed internet connection to their jobsite is a long and painful process. This was no different for Austin Industries, “Before, we’re talking 30 to 90 days if it’s coax 90 to 120 if it’s fiber just to get a connection. That was very inefficient for our business,” said Gregory. Relying on wireline connections was inefficient and unnecessarily expensive for business processes.

Even when a wireline service was finally installed, there were serious limitations for the construction vertical. Primary among these limitations was the dynamic nature of the construction industry. Due to the dynamic nature of construction, the office trailers to which internet service is delivered are frequently moved. This causes significant problems for wireline services, which have long lead times of 30 days at a minimum up to 120 days or more due to trenching and complicated buildouts. “Cable companies don’t want to survey your job site until the final placement of the trailer because if that changes then the survey is irrelevant,” said Paul. The limitations and survey issues make wireline solutions a poor fit for most construction companies telecom needs.
